One Love

Seeing as young Jamaican born Raheem Sterling is the new kid on the KOP following in the footsteps of John Barnes before him, I thought I’d add this pic of Bob Marley who was avid footballer. Many of his friends claimed that if Marley hadn’t been so dedicated to his music, he could have made it as a professional.

Suarez loves Liverpool too much to leave

Brendan Rodgers has no fears Luis Suarez will want to leave English football due to the criticism he receives.

"He loves playing in English football," said the boss. "I speak with Luis regularly and he loves the passion and excitement of the game over here.

"He is a player who's mentally very strong, as you can see from his time here with the amount of stick he's taken.

"It's actually a driver for him. It really motivates him.

"He loves being at Liverpool. He loves the city, he loves the club and he loves the supporters, so I can't see that happening."

Suarez scored one, made another and had a last-minute winner disallowed in Sunday's Merseyside derby - proof yet again that he is a world-class talent, according to his manager.

"I thought he was outstanding," said Rodgers. "He's just a breath of fresh air, his enthusiasm. He's our only fit striker here.

"He was tireless against Reading, we had to play a strong team in order to get a result against Anzhi, and I think many people thought the condition of the team and him in particular up front would maybe waver a bit, but the condition of the group and him in particular was amazing.

"He's a wonderful talent. He'll always provoke comments both positive and negative but the bottom line is he's a fantastic player. He scores goals, his goals to games ratio this season is fantastic.

"He's inspirational for the group because he works hard every day and his quality at that top end of the field - he genuinely is a world-class striker.

"It's a real privilege to work with that quality every day."

The decision to disallow Suarez's winner at Goodison followed a late - and incorrect - flag for offside.

Linesman Simon Bennett will now not officiate in the Premier League this weekend.

Everton 2-2 Liverpool – Premier League – 28th October 2012

Luis Suarez was once again both the hero and the pantomime villain of an exciting Merseyside derby at Goodison. From start to finish, the striker was central to the clash, with his shot on 14 minutes, deflecting off Leighton Baines to open the scoring.

El Pistolero celebrated by producing a Klinnsmann style dive under the nose of Everton boss David Moyes, who was less than pleased. Somewhat ironically, Everton’s very own Phil Neville was himself booked for diving during the course of the game.

Suarez doubled the Reds’ advantage on 20 minutes, courtesy of a fine header as the visitors stunned Goodison Park. However, Everton scored almost immediately through Leon Osman while Steve Naismith leveled the scores before half-time.

Brendan Rodgers shuffled his pack at half-time bringing on Sebastian Coates and Jonjo Shelvey for Nuri Sahin and Suso, The changes saw the Reds shift their formation to three at the back while Raheem Sterling moved into a more central attacking role.

Suarez was once again involved in some poor refereeing decisions when in the 94th minute he was deprived of a perfectly good winner when he smashed home a Sebastian Coates knock-down from a Steven Gerrard free-kick.

Rodgers could not hide his frustration at the last-gasp decision, he remained buoyed by his side's battling performance.

"Obviously I'm bitterly disappointed [with the last minute disallowed goal] because it was a brilliant game and I thought we stepped up well in the second half," he told his post-match press conference.

"I was so disappointed that it didn't count because for me it was an easy decision. The ball has come from deep and it is in the air for quite a long time. The official is just looking along the line and Coates is clearly onside when he heads it.

"It's a wonderful finish [from Suarez] and he should have had his second goal of the game.

"It would have been a well-deserved and brilliant win for us. Instead, we are frustrated but at the same time I am very proud.  I look at my team here today in a real cauldron of an atmosphere and how they stood up to everything against a very, very experienced team.

"Raheem Sterling is 17 years old, Suso is 18, Andre Wisdom 19, Jonjo Shelvey 20, while Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson are 22. They are all young players who will only grow and get better and better.

"So it was another terrific stride forward for us. We haven't had confirmation yet [as to why the goal was ruled-out] and I will certainly ask the question. But it's gone now, so I'm not going to dwell on it."

Brendan Rodgers was asked what he made of the Uruguayan's diving celebration following the opening goal of the game, Rodgers replied: "It was Scouse wit."
