LFC Interested In Sneijder

Liverpool are interested in bringing Wesley Sneijder to Anfield - but only if the Inter Milan midfielder agrees to take a massive pay cut.

The Holland international will leave Italy during the current transfer window after being frozen out at Inter and he's stalling over an offer from Galatasaray as he favours a move to the Premier League.

The Reds have yet to make an official approach for Sneijder but the player's representatives are aware of the club's interest.

Boss Brendan Rodgers is a big admirer of the 28-year-old and believes he would be a world-class acquisition to his Liverpool squad.

However, one major stumbling block is Sneijder's salary. He earns an eye-watering 6.5million euros a year (£5.4million) after tax in Italy. In the UK that is the equivalent of a basic wage of £200,000 per week.

With Liverpool having slashed their inflated wage bill over the past year and offered more performance-related contracts there is no chance of them offering anywhere near that figure.

However, if Sneijder lowers his demands in a bid to realise his dream of playing in England then the Reds will look to hold talks.

Inter are desperate to get Sneijder off their wage bill and have agreed a 7.5million euros (£6.3million) transfer fee with Galatasaray.

The Turkish side are willing to pay him £100,000 per week after tax but he's dragging his heels over a move to Istanbul.

Galatasaray president Unal Aysal wants an answer by this weekend but Sneijder has made it clear he won't be rushed into making a decision on his future.

"I am considering my options," he said.

"It's not a question of money. I have time to decide what to do and where to go before January 31."

Sneijder, who was a World Cup finalist with Holland in 2010, started his career at Ajax before moving to Real Madrid for 27million euros in 2007.

Two years later he went to Inter for 15million euros and in his first season in Italy he helped Jose Mourinho's side win both Serie A and the Champions League.

However, he has been hampered by injuries over the past two seasons and fell out with the club's hierarchy earlier this term after rejecting their request to take a pay cut.

Sneijder, who is under contract with Inter until 2015, hasn't played since September and needs a fresh start in order to rekindle his international career.

LFC Target Available For £6.3m

Galatasaray say they are only prepared to "wait another three or four days for Wesley Sneijder" and have examined other options should his transfer from Inter Milan fall through.

On Wednesday Netherlands internaional Sneijder, 28, said he was "in no rush" to make a decision about his future and did not want to be pressured in to one after the Turkish club urged him to join. He said he had until January 31 to agree to any proposal about his future.

Liverpool are among several other clubs rumoured to be interested in signing Sneijder, who said: "There are still two weeks to go before the end of the transfer window, so there is time. I am relaxed, and I'm considering my options."

But Galatasaray president Unal Aysal is not prepared to wait until then, and told reporters in Turkey: "We'll wait another three or four days for Sneijder.

"If the deal collapses, we have alternatives. The figures quoted in the media are wrong. Our deal with Inter is worth €7.5 million (£6.3 million).

"The player knows our proposal. Inter are now calculating things with him. Our offer for his wages is below €5.5 million. It is also true that our coach Fatih Terim wants Sneijder - he is the first name on his list.

"I see no reason why the transfer should not go through. Even if it does collapse, it won't be the end of the world."

Earlier this week, Terim told Sneijder he must look at Galatasaray "not as an alternative, but as a first choice". Terim was quick to emphasise the stature of the Istanbul club, saying: "If Sneijder wants to come to Galatasaray then he must see us as a first choice.

"This club is not anyone's plaything. Those who play here do not see Galatasaray as an alternative, but as a first choice. Otherwise, one must step aside."

LFC Target In No Rush

Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder has said he will not be pressured into making a decision over his future.

Sneijder, 28, is expected to leave Inter during the winter transfer window, with the Dutchman having not played for his current club since September. Liverpool and Tottenham have been credited with an interest.

Turkish side Galatasaray have had a bid accepted for Sneijder, although the midfielder is yet to decide whether to accept the contract on offer.

"All players on the move in this transfer window must decide what to do and where to go by the end of January. I'll do the same," Sneijder told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I am in no hurry and I don't want to rush this decision."

Sneijder, who helped Inter claim a memorable Treble in 2010, stressed the destination of his next move will not be determined by money.

"After what has happened in the last few months, in the context of having made football history with my teammates, well, I don't want to feel pressured," he said.

"After what I did, I don't want to feel this way - practically obliged to make such an important step in my life in a short space of time. It's not a money matter."

Sneijder Prepared To Hang On For PL Switch

Wesley Sneijder has put any move to Galatasaray on the backburner as he holds out for a switch to the English Premier League, according to Dutch daily De Telegraaf.

Inter announced yesterday that they have accepted a €10M bid for Sneijder from Galatasaray and the Turkish side have put a lucrative proposal in front of the Holland international.

Galatasaray will match Sneijder's current salary of €6M per year, which Inter were seeking to cut to €4M in a new contract, while they are also ready to speak to the Dutchman about adding on housing, cars, regular flights to Holland and other various bonuses.

And with Inter accepting the bid, the ball is now in Sneijder's court.

But he will make them wait.

The midfielder's priority remains to move to the English Premier League, where there has been much talk of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool; so much so that Sneijder was forced to comment on reports of a switch to White Hart Lane and to Anfield.

Now Sneijder is prepared to wait until late in the transfer window to see if the opportunity to move to England arises - and it is one he is keen to take.

Having already knocked back an enquiry from Galatasaray's rivals Fenerbahce, Sneijder does not appear delighted with the chance to land at the Turk Telekom Arena - but he may be left with that or staying at Inter.

Wesley Sneijder Latest

Wesley Sneijder returned to Inter training on Thursday, but his future with the Beneamata is still in doubt.

The Dutchman was allowed an extra day's holiday as he arrived at Appiano Gentile this morning just after 9.30am.

The midfielder, however, is still in conflict with his club who have unsuccessfully asked him to reduce his salary by €2m a season.

To make matters worse, the Treble-winner has been left out of the first team by boss Andrea Stramaccioni in recent weeks - even after recovering from injury.

The former Real Madrid man is being linked with Liverpool, Tottenham, Anzhi, Schalke and even city rivals Milan.

Sneijder Could Leave Inter For FREE

Wesley Sneijder is ready to walk out of Inter Milan for free - sparking a Premier League scramble to sign the Dutch master next month.

Sneijder, a £35million target for Manchester United 18 months ago, is taking legal advice to discover whether he can force his departure from the San Siro after being ordered to take a pay-cut by the Italian giants.

Inter want to slash his £180,000-a-week wages by half - and have told him he will continue to be frozen out by coach Andrea Stramaccioni until he signs the new deal.

Sneijder, 28, will ask FIFA to intervene but has already been assured he is within his rights to walk out on Inter for breach of contract and restraint of trade.

That would allow him to sign for another club while FIFA investigate his case - and it could take FIFA up to two years to make a ruling.

Sneijder's advisers have made it clear he is now ready to take a small cut to around £160,000-a-week.

Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool have all been informed of Sneijder's impending availability. And although Paris St Germain and Fenerbahce have made their interest clear, the player would prefer a move to England.

Sneijder has made just five Serie A appearances for Inter this season and hasn't played since September 26. He said: "I am super-fit and I want to play."

Inter are trying to slash their wage bill as the world economic crisis grips Italian football. Sneijder still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract, but Inter will extend it by a further season if he accepts a pay-cut.

Inter's technical director Marco Branca warned: "We have given Sneijder time to think about our offer and during this situation we will not select him for games."
